MADCOS Boys Active Soccer Champions League Tournament 2016

On Thursday 24th November 16 Year 5/6 primary school teams and over 100 Footballers from MADCOS took part in the annual Floodlit Champions League 5 aside tournament.

Weather conditions were perfect albeit the lowering temperatures kept the teachers and spectators on their toes. Although the quality of football played and excitement from the group stages would of helped.

After the group stages the Quarter Finals were contested in a knockout route to the Final after some close games the semi-finalists were St John Bosco, Aintree Davenhill, St George’s and Holy Rosary.

St John Bosco’s won their semi-final 3-0 against a very competitive St Georges team who had played really well all evening. The other semi-final between Holy Rosary and Aintree Davenhill was decided by penalties after the tie had finished 0-0. The shootout was like for like with 2 scored and a miss before Davenhill managed to hold their nerve and score the winning penalty and progress to the Final against St John Bosco.

The final was a great game and St John Bosco played another superb game and won 2-0 to take the trophy. Special mention for the Aintree Davenhill team who made the final with all but one of their players taking part were from Year 5 so they have the makings of a very strong school football team for 2017.

Active Soccer would like to make a special thank you to all schools, staff, players and parents who made the evening so special once again. We would also like to thank Maricourt Catholic High School and their PE department and Sports Leaders for their contributions and help on the day.

On behalf of all the staff at Active Soccer we would like to wish all the schools a very happy Christmas and successful New Year – see you in 2017.
