Player Development

More advanced coaching for ambitious players.

The active soccer Player Development Centre programme is an ‘invitation only’ coaching course to develop youngsters as individuals and to improve the standard of local junior and youth football. If a player has achieved the Silver Level Award in the Active Soccer Challenge they will be invited to join their nearest Active Soccer PDC centres.

The active soccer Player Development sessions are run weekly and are available for players between the ages of 7 and 14. All the sessions are delivered by fully qualified active soccer coaches who work to a specifically designed technical programme by our Player Development Director Kevin Austin. The main emphasis of the sessions is on development and to help players to fulfil their potential in a fun learning environment.

Players involved in the Player Development Centres may have the opportunity to represent active soccer against other active soccer PDCs, academies and centre of excellences.

The Player Development Centre programme aims to:

  • Provide an enjoyable, safe and secure learning environment;
  • Improve the players confidence, communication and technical ability;
  • Provide information and support around the importance of healthy living and diet.
  • Compliment the player's current football provision (ie. club football);
  • Provide high quality coaching sessions through a developed technical programme
  • Develop players to achieve the active soccer Gold Award
  • Improve the standard of football they may play at later in life;
  • Provide relevant feedback (verbal and written) throughout the ten week course.
  • Provide games / match opportunities for selected players;
  • Show patience and understanding towards the players learning style and physical developments.

Children attending The Player Development Centres will receive a ‘Personal Performance Diary’.

The Player Development Coaching Director

Kevin Austin

I played in over 500 competitive matches during a 20 year career as a professional footballer.

I signed for my first professional club Leyton Orient in 1993 and then went on to play for clubs such as Barnsley, Swansea, Bristol Rovers and Chesterfield. I have also played international football for Trinidad and Tobago.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my football career and have contributed towards the promotion of those clubs previously mentioned. The knowledge and experience that I have gained along the way has been invaluable and I would love to pass on some of those skills and experiences to young children.

In April 2012 I became the Director of active soccer Sheffield and now combine this with coaching the Sheffield University Ladies football team and working with the Sheffield Wednesday Football Academy.

As a Uefa A license coach and in my role as the active soccer Player Development Director I have helped to create a coaching programme that includes high quality sessions to develop young player’s technical ability and understanding of the game.
